Sensei Claire Carter, the highest graded female Seishin Jitsuka in the country, visited the Fenchurch Street dojo on April 1st to teach a guest seminar. Sensei Crater taught various striking, locking and throwing techniques and demonstrated that you really don't have to be big to be great at Jiu Jitsu!
National Course and Competition
The annual National Jiu Jitsu Course and competitions were held last weekend in Exeter. Thanks to everybody who came down to represent the club! The Fenchurch Street Club came home with two gold medals including the Gokenin category random attacks and also the coveted open grade/open weight groundwork trophy which saw Sensei Hoyle beat Sensei Ali by arm lock in the final!
Christmas Social
Thanks to everybody who came out and made our recent social such a success!
Memories seem to get hazier for most of us as the evening progressed so here's a quick recap. We congregated at the Liberty Bounds for a quick aperitif before heading down to the Strada Italian restaurant on St. Katherine's docks for pizza and pasta, after all we would need the energy for training the next day!Colin showed us all his new (and slightly unorthodox) method of wearing the paper hat from his christmas cracker. After a most satisfactory dinner it was time to head to The Dickens Inn for a few more sociable drinks and a short sensei's speech to thank everyone not only for training hard, but for making ours one of the friendliest and most welcoming martial arts clubs in the capital. Eventually we all headed home, not forgetting the synchronised kata on London Bridge along the way!
Thanks Kevin for capturing some of the night's more exciting moments on camera. Club members can see the photos on our Facebook page.
See you all in the New Year!
