This may seem like a lot at first but don't worry, it will be brought in gradually.
- Yamae is the Japanese word for stop. If you hear it, do so immediately.
- Always report any injuries to the Sensei.
- Be punctual or early to help lay out the tatami (training mat).
- Before stepping onto or leaving the mat, a rei is made to the highest grade on the mat.
- No jewellery of any kind is to be worn on the mat (tatami).
- Always make sure your gi (training uniform) is clean, your obe (belt) is tied properly, and your fingernails and toenails are short.
- The instructor is called Sensei (teacher) at all times when in the dojo.
- Never leave the mat without permission from the Sensei.
- On entering and leaving the dojo, a standing rei (bow) is made to show respect for the place in which we train.
- No food or drink is to be consumed in the dojo and no smoking.
- Never walk onto the mat with shoes on.
- Respect senior grades.
